For my part, I stand on side of the former opinion that spelling is an important and necessary in English learning. Therefore, due attention should be given to spelling.

As to whether it is worthwhile giving attention to spelling in English learning, there is a long-running controversial debate. It’s quite natural that people from different backgrounds may have divergent attitudes towards it.

Those who have already benefited from practicing it sing high praise of it. For one thing, they are of the opinion that spelling is a basic skill and correct spelling can make a great contribution to our English learning, especially to remember words. For another, they advocate that correct spelling is very necessary in communication. What’s more, it is a mark or sign to indicate the level of our English and education.

However, there are a large number of people who hold a different view concerning this case. They argue that most of us do not have much chance to speak English or communicate with the foreigners in the future. Thus they considered that training spelling just a heave and a needless burden.
